April is National Poetry Month, and this year, the timing couldn't be better. Over the next few issues of Lowcountry Weekly, we'll feature the work of 14 local poets.
The first vampire crawled out of his grave in 1725, a disgusting, noseless, reanimated corpse. Today, our vampires look super-sexy and sparkle. How did we get from vampires to glampires? In this one-hour performance, Grady Hendrix, award-winning author of the new novel, The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, delivers a breakneck history of vampires using a barrage of flashy illustrations and, quite possibly, interpretive dance. Hendrix has performed his book-based shows all over the world, from London to Los Angeles, and Dance of the Glampires is guaranteed to be the most (legal) fun you’ve ever had in a bookstore.
On Tuesday, March 31, the Pat Conroy Literary Center will hold a book launch celebration for Beaufort-based travel writers Lynn and Cele Seldon and their new books, 100 Things to Do in Savannah Before You Dieand the 2ndedition of their bestselling 100 Things to Do in Charleston Before You Die (both published by Reedy Press).
Pulpwood Queen’s Discuss Pat Conroy’s ‘A Lowcountry Heart’

The Pat Conroy Literary Center Book Club has been reading and discussing all twelve of Pat Conroy's memoirs and novels in order of publication. The twelfth Conroy Center Book Club meeting will be led by the Beaufort chapter of the Pulpwood Queens, the largest book club in the U.S., as they discuss the posthumously published A Lowcountry Heart (2016). To be held at the Pat Conroy Literary Center at 905 Port Republic St. on Tuesday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m., this special event is free and open to the public.
The Rose Hill Author Series is a partnership between the Pat Conroy Literary Center, the Rose Hill Readers book club, and Oak Terrace at Rose Hill to highlight the exceptional stories of Lowcountry authors in engaging lunchtime discussions. The next Rose Hill Author Series lunch will be held on Tuesday, March 24, beginning at noon and will feature best-selling writer Cassandra King Conroy, author of the recently published memoir Tell Me a Story: My Life with Pat Conroy.
The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center's third annual Camp Conroy will be held on June 15 to 26, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Presented in partnership with Beaufort Middle School, the collaborative experience will provide campers (age 8-14) with a hands-on opportunities to create a book from start to finish.
