Still on my quest to lighten up a bit, I turned, once again this week, to that sweet, frothy brain snack, People magazine. Empty calories it may be, but it still gave me food for thought.
One night, not too long ago, my husband and I were having a heated discussion (we never argue, we discuss… hotly) about something we’d just heard on the news. Honestly, I can’t remember the topic, but I can only assume it was presidential primaries-related. As our conversation unfolded – “unfolded” being, perhaps, too gentle a term – our pitches rose, our comments began to overlap, then collide, and our pleasant, after-supper “family time” teetered on the brink of… unpleasantness.
What to write about as the New Year rushes forward? So many topics I’d love to discuss; so many reasons not to. As you may remember, I’ve made a resolution to be more temperate in this column. Less offensive. Less controversial.
The other day, someone at a luncheon I attended said she feels like she’s known me for years because she reads this page. “Margaret pours her heart out in her column,” she told another woman at our table. “She can’t help herself.”
Did you happen to read about that four-car pile-up on the Woods Memorial Bridge a few weeks ago? Well, my daughter and I were in car number 3, which, as it turns out, is not the best slot in line.
Man, you look good. Who knew you would look so good? The last time I saw some of you – most of you – your faces were smooth as marble, clean blank pages, uncharted territory. You were pretty then. You’re beautiful now.
