‘Tis the season, everyone! Boiled peanuts! That glory of southern snackdom. There are unpleasant rumors circulating which suggest some people don’t care for the unique mucilaginous, somewhat saline, taste of this rare seasonal delicacy; I’m rather doubtful that these rumors are true, although I do understand that some unfortunate individuals are allergically responsive to nuts and must avoid peanuts.
Now is the time to get out the catalogs and make plans for adding color and interest to flower gardens. The axiom is that spring blooming bulbs are planted in the fall.
It all began when I started seeing them along the roadsides, great noisy machines and giant trucks, their handlers high above in buckets or down below feeding limbs into the growling maw of a huge grinding machine.
Anyone else old enough to remember that ad for tired, poor blood? Did you know that our container plants can have tired, poor soil? It is just all worn out, sort of like people in this weather.
I just got back from a wonderful conference up in Cullowhee, NC, and wouldn’t you know I’d have to learn some things that took me out of my comfort zone of landscape design. It’s not fair to be an old gal and have to learn or relearn new tricks!
